Since 2022, the International Press Institute (IPI) has worked with Taz in Germany and Faktograf in Croatia to decode the populist propaganda that targets investigative journalists and fact-checkers, both essential players in the fight against disinformation.
In this workshop, we will take a peek at the behind-the-scenes work of some of our investigations that have uncovered the extent to which far-right networks use online and physical violence to intimidate and undermine journalists in countries like Spain, Croatia, Slovakia, Romania, and Germany, among others.
We also take the opportunity to introduce “The Guide to Decoding Disinformation” —a comprehensive, step-by-step methodology that outlines how to identify the core elements of coordinated disinformation campaigns aimed at independent media. We will also explore the primary narratives employed across Europe to discredit the essential work of these journalists.
Buckle up for a disturbing ride across the disinformation bubble in Europe.
